Exhibition: Special Star Watchmakers from the Vallée de Joux
Still today, the most respected watch brands in world, brands like Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, Breguet, and Blancpain to name a few, maintain their own workshops dedicated to highly complex watches in the Vallée de Joux. The region is famous for its inhabitants’ ability to conceive, manufacture, and assemble major complications such as chronographs, striking mechanisms, and calendars – and even combine them within the same movement.
The Henry Graves Supercomplication by Patek Philippe, which sold last year at Sotheby’s for $24 million, was built there and involved seven different watchmakers and craftsmen. This particular know-how in watchmaking as well as the incredible products that result are the focus of the current “Star Watch” exhibition at the Espace Horloger – Watch Museum of Le Sentier in the Vallée de Joux. We went up there on a snowy day to visit the exhibition, which is very worthwhile.
