Parmigiani Fleurier Introduces Some Serious Innovation At The 2016 SIHH
This is some serious statement done by Parmigiani Fleurier at this year's SIHH! After 8 years of development, the brand introduced their first integrated chronograph, something representing the pinacle of watch movement development for any serious watchmaker. This chronograph's movement holds two column wheels, one for the "simple" chronograph function and the second one for the "rattrapante" function, and is encased in a classical pink gold case. An additional beautiful feature is the different golden bridges used to hold the movement, very refined and worthy of this great technical achievement.
But for us the main attraction was the presentation of the Senfine, a watch that holds a new radical approach to classical watch escapement. We are not talking about any wheels and springs with this escapement, but it is a full silicon part that enables the energy to be smoothly evacuated by using the elastic property of the material. The huge and main advantage is that the power consumption of the watch is set at a minimal and the goal is to have 70 days of power reserve with this system, so simply put; a real game-changer in watchmaking!!! Though this watch is still a prototype, we are really impressed that a classical watchmaker such as Parmigiani Fleurier is seriously thinking outside the box and looking at the future of horology.
