The Unusual UR-110 Eastwood By Urwerk

The hypergalactic independent horology brand Urwerk decided to stay on earth for once with its new UR-110 Eastwood models. Indeed, these new watches have a fully organic bezel made of rare wood. On one version the bezel is Macassar ebony, while the second one is red ebony. Using wood adds a new style to Urwerk’s watches because the material itself shows imperfections of the kind found only in nature. Each watch is also different from the other as the material is not homogenous. In addition, wood gets a certain patina over time that changes the watch's character. Using the wood in this way was also a challenge as the bezel has a curved shape and the engineers had to select just the right pieces for this. The Eastwood watches also boast a strap made out of English tweed, which is the result of a meeting between Martin Frei and Felix Baumgartner (co-founders of Urwerk) with English tailor Timothy Everest in London. The selected tweed is Prince of Wales check, which is worn by the Duke of Windsor, and it embodies a vision the three partners share: bringing traditional art and craft into the modern era.
