Jacob & Co - TwinTurbo Furious Chrono Pit Board Explained
One can never be too fast and furious with Jacob & Co and their watches, especially with its Twin Turbo Furious Carbon model. And this time we decided to get the full experience and indulge in the universe of hypercars and speed.
As the brand pushes the limits with its dual triple-axis tourbillon, minute repeater, mono-pusher chronograph, we decided to push our own limits as well and went to the real circuit of Le Mans, where the famous 24 Hours race takes place each year. This time we didn’t take our chances in an endurance-focused racing event but used this opportunity to test the exceptional timepiece and explain to you how it works.
So, the TTF is made of 832 components, which is seriously impressive. In addition, it has 88 components for the forged carbon case. It is quite bulky in terms of size: 57mm in length, 52mm in width, and 17mm in height. So more of a male watch. And on a technical level, it’s a combination of ultra-high-end mechanisms, a signature feature far almost all timepieces from Jacob & Co. It’s what you can get if you merge haute horology with the racing car.
The two multi-axis tourbillons may seem to be advancing in a slightly odd manner, but this is due to their fast rotation speed. The inner cage rotates in 24 seconds, and the intermediary in only 8 seconds, which is extremely fast. The speed of the outer one is 72 seconds and there are some mechanical constraints that trigger this behavior. Both of these tourbillons are interconnected with a regulator system to average their running with the goal of increasing the performance of the timepiece. Nevertheless, this timepiece holds 50 hours of power reserve and is hand-wounded.
Part of the Twin Turbo's 832-component JCFM05 Manufacture Jacob & Co caliber is a decimal minute repeater, which is the most exotic and rarest of all chiming complications. To hear the crystal-clear sound of its cathedral gongs you need to push the slide set into the left-hand side of the case.
Ok, but the show, if I may say so, doesn’t stop there because this watch also holds a chronograph function. And it’s a mono-pusher chronograph, meaning that you activate it, stop it, and reset it only by pressing one button found on the crown. Often chronographs are modules that are added to an existing movement, but as you can imagine with this serious machine, everything has been developed from scratch by the Swiss team of Jacob & Co.
Everything herestarted with a blank sheet of paper, and therefore this chronograph function is totally part of the movement’s architecture. Yet another great technical achievement of the brand.
One last thing to be added is the particularity of this domed sapphire glass which is pretty complicated to manufacture. And this just accentuates this timepiece’s uniqueness.
Needless to say, this watch is a limited edition. The forged carbon version is limited to 18 pieces and is already quite exuberant, but if you want to go one step further, the baguette diamond set versions are coming soon in either white or rose gold. Definitely worth checking.
