Introducing: New Hermès H08
HERMES SPORTS LINE.
This time we will talk about the introduction of a new collection by Hermès, the H08, a rather sporty line though we’re not talking chronographs or the likes, but a simple and efficient three-hander with its very own identity.
You can’t mistake this watch with any other, definitely has a unique feel to it with this shape in shape design, its own original font, very Hermès and comes in a variety of combination; super light composite case or titanium case, different colours, well let’s discover all about it with Guillaume de Seyne and Philippe Dehlotal, who will both explain the genesis of the collection and its main particularities.
“Definitely, we wanted to design a men's watch, sporty but not in the performance, meaning just a watch that can be worn really every day and in every occasion. We wanted also to give this idea of lightness. We decided very naturally to go towards different kind of materials, titanium, of course, which is not new in this industry, but relatively new for Hermès. Once again, to give this idea of a very contemporary and light watch.”
This is the first watch in the collection, a composite version. It’s an apparently all-black, but a closer look at this part shows that’s not entirely true. The various materials, treatments and finishes give it depth, relief and multiple nuances. So, when it comes to this case made of a graphene-filled composite. Graphene is a very hard and light material we have incorporate into this composite. It gives the watch its robustness as well as its lightness.
Typography represents a true Hermès signature. It particularly stands out in this watch, starting with the bezel that is both round and square. This is picked up in the 0 in the 8 and in other numerals composing the typography. So that’s why we called it the H08.
Along with the typography, this watch features a noteworthy seconds hand. This hand performs a central sweep, as opposed to the kind of seconds hand that runs over the typography and sometimes conceals it.
Then applied ceramic to the bezel. The use of ceramic was designed to make it sturdier, scratch-resistant and even lighter. It was also chosen for its pleasant feel and finishes. Then comes rubber, a material well-suited to all sports activities.
The movement beating inside is the mechanical self-winding Calibre 1837. It equips all versions of this new sports watch.
But Hermès being Hermès, they didn’t stop with the watch but accompanied this launch with some art curation with two young french artists.
The main idea started with the question, if the time has a structure, the Hermès time, the H08 time, and which kind of structure is it?
Tensegrity is a structure which is really rigid. There is a lot of tension and compression, but it's really light. It weight maybe just a little bit more than 200 kilo and is 8 meters tall.
