Opera Godfather Minute Repeater Tourbillon by Jacob & Co
Hands on some crazy Jacob & Co watches.
Opera Godfather Minute Repeater
It’s been few years after Jacob & Co came out with the first Opera Godfather Timepiece.
The latest model of the collection Opera Godfather, the chiming version, which comes with a black PVD coated titanium case, which makes it a bit lighter compared to the full rose gold version.
In terms of movement, this watch features a fast rotating three-axis tourbillon, already quite something but for the very first time it encompassed a fully functional music box with this pair of cylinders and hidden combs producing the music and naturally playing the main theme of the Godfather movie, one of Jacob Arabo’s all-time favourite movie for which he managed to get the rights from Paramount pictures.
The hour and minute dial is now found in the center and floats above the entire dial, so no more Don Corleone figurine like on the previous model. Instead you will find a picture of the Godfather/Marlon Brando on the grand piano.
All in all, this movement is made out of 758 components, that’s really huge, it beats at 3Hz and has a couple of hours of extra power reserve, 44 hours.
This watch has a very special case transposing you in the lodges of the Scala Opera house. It sure is quite spectacular, maybe not so easy to take it with you when you travel, but for this there are other options.
And talking about travel and this is quite fun, Jacob & Co have now mimicked the Swiss passport as the original certificate and operating instructions of the watch. It’s really well done and I think you may even get away entering a few countries with this one.
Scarface Opera
Another favourite movie of his and this time working with Universal Pictures to get the permission to do this and you can see one of the famous sentence of the movie with this gold globe in the middle and the famous The world is yours” written on it and Al Pacino’s silhouette just beside it.
Mechanically speaking, this timepiece has the exact same working principles as the Godfather; also a three-axis tourbillon, also featuring this music box complication and by activating it with this pusher found at 10 o’clock. Each time you play it, the full dial rotates by 120 degrees while at the same time.
Opera Godfather
And here we see the first and traditional version, the Opera Godfather, which came out a few years ago. All three Operas have a three-axis tourbillon, also featuring the music box complication and by activating it with this pusher found at 10 o’clock, it plays the music from the movie.
They are all the same size, meaning 49mm in width and 23mm in height
Another few close-ups.
