UNBOXING - The GNS 1.2 by Young Brand Genus

The winner of the Mechanical Exception Watch Prize at the 2019 GPHG.

Today, we are coming with a new video in our Unboxing series and for this one we have the pleasure of discovering the winner of the Mechanical Exception Watch Prize at the 2019 GPHG (Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève) The GNS 1.2 by Genus.

Genus is a young and fresh Geneva based watch brand created by Sebastien Billières who has a long experience in watchmaking as a supplier before fulfilling his dream of creating a different and unusual watch.

Time reading is not completely intuitive but nevertheless quite fun on this timepiece. The hours are read on an outer ring which makes one full turn in 12 hours. In the middle of the dial you find 2 disks one on top of the other with a train moving between them showing in which 10 of minute increment we are. To get the exact minute you will have to look on the right side of the dial where a little disk for the minute reading is found.

We must admit that the little train does make it such a playful timepiece to set the time on!

This particular model has a white gold case and is 43 mm wide and 13mm high, leaving more than enough space to create a bespoke piece.

Movement side the main plate and the bridges are made out of solid gold, and the rest is made out of steel. It has all been custom made for this particular movement which beats at 2.5 Hz which means 18'000 oscillations per hours and a good 50 hours of power reserve.

We hope you enjoy this video and Viva Watchmaking!
