Tribute to Independent Watchmaking
On the marge of the last auction held by Philipps in Geneva took place a very interesting exhibition showcasing examples of what independent watchmaking is all about. Amazing timepieces were put on display, from the early works of some great names of this scene to their latest creations, this was a nice mix to enjoy. There was also an inspiring panel discussion with no less than Philippe Dufour, Stephen Forsey, François-Paul Journe, Roger Smith, Max Busser and the wife of late Gerald Genta!
But what I found particularly interesting was the message that such an endeavour carries; true value stands in some meaningful vintage watches, though sometimes prices witnessed for severely bruised out watches can be questionable, but its contemporary counterpart stands with these independent watchmakers.
And by independent, I believe the term can be slightly confusing, as Rolex is naturally independent, but let's say more small brands, small volumes and total dedication to the art of watchmaking where the hand of watchmakers and artisans are at the center of these fine timepieces.
