Blancpain Novelties at Baselworld 2016
This year Blancpain's emphasis has been put on the Ladybird for its 60th anniversary, a collection dedicated to women. The Ladybird was the smallest round watch of its time with a movement that originally was only 11.5mm wide. The new movements are slightly bigger, but the watch remains small and elegant. One of the particularity of this collection is a charm attached to the watch case, but for the special edition presented at Baselworld there are no charms, instead an incrusted diamond on the oscillating mass with a mother of pearl dial with "perlage" motives on. This special watch is limited to 60 timepieces and priced at CHF 18'000.- Swiss Francs.
Blancpain also introduced a new version of its Batyscaphe Fifty Fathoms in a grey ceramic case with a metallic feel to it and this watch comes with 3 hands indications for hours, minutes and seconds, priced at 12'000.- Swiss Francs.
In the Villeret collection, we saw a new annual calendar watch in steel, but this watch also features a GMT function, thus its full name Quantième Annuel GMT. With this watch you only need to adjust the date in February, otherwise you are all set for the rest of the year and to make any changes of the day and month indications, you will find the brand's famous under lugs correctors not necessitating any special tools, you finger will do just fine. Tis watch is priced at 25'000.- Swiss Francs
And finally, we had the chance of seeing a new timepiece in the Métier d'Art collection with a unique piece called The Great Wave. Inspired by a famous Japanese painting, this watch exemplifies the artisanship mastered by the brand with a special Mexican stone dial onto which an engraved waved is placed on it and the leather bracelet is also tailored made for this special 42mm watch.
