Richard Mille & The RM 028 Diving Watch
One often associates Richard Mille watches with it’s characteristic tonneau shaped cases, but the brand has been doing round models for a few years already. Among them, there is a diving collection comprised of three different models and today we will focus on the RM 028, the “simpler” one as the RM 025 bears a tourbillon and the RM 032 presents a chronograph function.
For the purpose of this video, Richard Mille kindly lent us a model that was not destined to be sold, as it was part of the first batch of prototypes and that was simply perfect for the usage we would make of it during the Bol d'Or on Lake Geneva!
The RM 028 is water resistant to 30 atmosphere, meaning 300 meters and as with almost all Richard Mille watches, the watch’s case is made out of 3 different parts but this time held together by using 12 special torque screws found on the exterior part of the case in order to guarantee this depth resistance.
This is an automatic watch and features the brand’s variable geometry rotor, meaning that you can adapt with 6 different positions the rotor’s inertia depending on the user’s wearing habits. This is not something you can perform yourself and needs to be done by a proper watchmaker, as it is reachable only by opening up the watch. The RM 028 features two barrels with a special winding system optimised for long term performance of the watch and with all Richard Mille watches the movement is skeletonized which naturally gives it a very technical feel to it.
In terms of indications, you’ll find hour-minute-seconds hands as well as a date indicator at 7 o’clock. It comes in a 47 mm case and since it’s mainly made out of titanium (case, lugs and many part of the movement, including bridges, base plate), it’s very light and confortable.
