How Jaeger-LeCoultre Preserves Rare Crafts
Jaeger-LeCoultre is renowned for its ability to manufacture dozens of movement types at large scale. But what is lesser known is that the brand also has the same capacity regarding the decoration of complete watches – including, for instance, enameling, engraving, guilloche, gem setting, and all the decorative finishes used in the movement like the Geneva stripes, perlage, and sandblasting. The new rare crafts department is in charge of decorating all the cases and dials as well as developing new kinds of (industrial) patterns for movement embellishment.
Janek Deleskiewicz, artistic director at Jaeger-LeCoultre, explains how the brand managed to gather different craftsmen and -women in the factory who used to independently work at home. And then he explains how research and development processes have been implemented in addition to current operations.
