The Design Of Vacheron Constantin With Vincent Kauffmann – Design Saga 4

"Find the balance" is the declared goal of Vincent Kaufmann, head of design at Vacheron Constantin, each time he and his team must create a new watch. Continuing our saga on design, we knocked on the door of one of the oldest manufactures in watchmaking to find out what the rules are. The big surprise turned out to be that the brand's patrimony in terms of models must remain a source of inspiration as Kauffmann told us. But at the same time, it is crucial to be in touch with the times to introduce modernity in the drawings, but not copy/pasting old models. In addition, the result must be timeless, meaning that a watch must be still beautiful and appealing years later. This set of constraints comprises the day-to-day work of Kaufmann's team, which, by the way, includes a very current set of skills. For instance, one digital designer is chiefly in charge of modeling and analyzing light reflections.
