PRIMETIME - March 2023

Watchmaking in the news.

Welcome to the PRIMETIME watchmaking in the news, the best of the best shows about horology and watches on YouTube.

In this March edition, we are getting ready for the upcoming Geneva Watch Week and bringing you the latest information about the industry.

You will hear about developments and expectations from Watches & Wonders, Time to Watches, as well as other shows of the Geneva Watch Week, we analyse very important rumors about LVMH and Richemont and the revival of the Daniel Roth and Gerald Genta brands. We check the best lots from recent Sotheby’s and Christie’s and, of course, talk NEW watches. Everything that you like in one place!

So, we start with Watches & Wonders evolution, which will celebrate its second anniversary this year. The ex-SIHH is set to occur between the 27th of March through April the 2nd and there’s quite a lot to be said both in terms of the event itself and how it will now be organised, but also regarding some behind the scene information. As previously mentioned on Primetime and following the demise or self-implosion of Baselworld, Geneva has definitely become the epicentre of watchmaking-related events in terms of size and number of participating brands, whether within Watches & Wonders of course, but many other events scattered throughout the city.

Geneva has the necessary infrastructure to host such a dense watchmaking week; a huge exhibition hall and other facilities, convenient logistical solutions, easy access, enough housing accommodation solutions and so forth and now a new organisation with new ambitions behind this main event of Watches & Wonders.

Before, this event was supervised by the FHH, the Foundation de la Haute Horlogerie, and this one was heavily linked with the Richemont Group and still is. When Rolex and Patek decided to make the move to Geneva, including other big players such as Chopard and LVMH brands, it resulted in some important changes with a new organisers committee presided by Mr. Jean-Frederic Dufour, CEO of Rolex. Now a new institution called  Watches & Wonders Geneva Foundation has been set up, distinct from the FHH despite the fact that they still share the same offices and the phone number for both is still the same. Yet both organisations have different missions.

With the ambitious goal to make Geneva great again for the watch fairs, the new Foundation slightly opened its doors to the public. There will be two full days open to everyone over the weekend. Entry price is set at CHF 70.- and CHF 40.- for students and free for kids under 12. And there will be some very interesting things organised, which we mentioned in the video, along with Time to Watches events.

All in all, watch Primetime to know more.

And in the second part of our show we are talking about Blancpain Tech Gombessa Fifty Fathoms, Mission to Moonshine Gold by Moonswatch, Junghans Meister Chronoscope, Jacob & CO Casino Tourbillon, Richard Mille RM 07-04 as well as our review on a couple of very nice watch books. So don’t miss it!

Plus we ask you one very important question and would like to hear your answers in comments ;)
