As if our interview with Zenith CEO Julien Tornare last week wasn’t enough with the presentation of two superb new models from the Maison, here is their tough micro-blasted titanium tool watch with a colourful twist worth your viewing time.

A brand new version of the DEFY 21 with the silky smooth stealth luxury of micro-blasted dark titanium, housing the maison’s 21th century version of the classic El Primero movement. The highest frequency regular production chronograph is here paired with the highest frequency colour perceptible to the human eye, are you intrigued? Just one look at the dizzying spin foudroyante seconds hand and you’re sold on this double balance tour de force from Zenith.

A bright violet fabric effect insert in the rubber strap works as a sharp contrast to the stealth weapons grade titanium case, hinting at more to come for those of you daring enough for a serious dash of colour. Polished Rhodium plated indices and hands with Super-Luminova makes for a highly legible watch even in its dark skeletonized guise, with the spin of the central hand hypnotizing you, with one full rotation per second. Closed registers and a dark rehaut for the 1/100th seconds read-out guarantees a high functionality quota and increases the perception of depth and tension in the dial. But wait... then you see a flash of colour beyond the dark skeletonized details and registers…

Twist the watch slightly under the light and a strong violet jewel-like background colour emerges from inside the movement. The main plate, bridges and classic Zenith star-shaped rotor are PVD-coated in the brightest Violet I’ve seen in the world of horology, bringing a playful element of colour to the DEFY 21, accentuating the darkness and catching the eye. Watch the video and you will be hit by the way in which the violet tones shift in hue from bright violet to purple-ish darkness with the light.

God sure is in the details, and here they are violet and mesmerizing.
