Mechanical Marvels Of SIHH 2016

Even if we didn’t pick them for our Top 5 ranking, some exceptional watches launched at SIHH 2016 deserve to be in the spotlight too. We selected four models that, for us, are so special and exceptional that they had to figure in a dedicated ranking.

First: the De Bethune DB25 World Traveller looks simple but hides a treasury of technology in order to display a second time zone as well as world time. Additionally, it is very easy to set, which is a massive advantage for this kind of watch.

Then the A. Lange & Söhne Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon was THE masterpiece presented by the venerable Saxon manufacture. The dial of this watch is, of course, splendid, but the back is simply stunning. And we always love to see tourbillons hidden on the back of the watch.

The next one, visible at Cartier, is called the Rotonde Astromystérieux. What a watch! The movement floats in the middle with no visible connection with the case. It is entirely controlled by a total of four sapphire crystal discs that also allow the caliber to revolve around its own axis in one hour. This mysterious watch is the most precise and honest tribute to Cartier’s remarkable history with mysterious clocks.

Finally, the Senfine prototype from Parmigiani Fleurier is the first wristwatch equipped with the new silicon Genecand regulator. Based on a grasshopper type of escapement, it allows the timepiece to save hours of power reserve. This timepiece embodies the ability of Parmigiani group to significantly innovate as well open new and interesting ways to increase the performances of its mechanical calibers.
