Movado dared to redesign its iconic model, the Museum Watch first launched in 1947 and imagined by Nathan George Horwitt, an American industrial designer. This watch is a legend in watch design because of its Bauhaus inspiration and its radical simplicity. It was then a courageous challenge to rethink this icon. The new 2016 version is called The Edge and was also created by a designer not exclusively into watches: Yves Béhar. Born and raised in Lausanne, Switzerland, Yves Béhar is one of the few influent global designers. He is particularly renown for having conceived the Jawbone bracelet and to be one of the best specialists of connected objects.

For Efraim Grindberg, CEO of the Movado Group, it was natural to give a new impulse to the collection by giving a contemporary touch to it. For Yves Béhar, the goal was to maintain the simplicity of the original model but in a three-dimensional approach this time. The industrial dimension had also to be clearly present and the result is a new machine stamped curved dial. This concave shape also helps to play with the light by densifying it before reflecting it. The Edge is then available in various tints such as a metallic dark blue or copper with smoked-like zones to reinforce the impression of deepness. For us, the new Edge is a success as it brings an unexpected and very contemporary new face to the ancient Museum.

And as Béhar is also very aware and active in the world of digital objects, we asked him about how traditional watchmaking can create a valuable link with connected devices.
