The UR-106 Lotus: Urwerk’s First Ladies’ Watch

Felix Baumgartner and Martin Frei, co-founders of Urwerk, wanted to create a ladies’ model for years. But ongoing projects and the context never allowed them to make it happen until now. Of course, real female fans of Urwerk didn’t wait around all this time and are already customers of the brand. But with the UR-106 Lotus, for the first time the partners provide their own interpretation of femininity in watchmaking. The UR-106 Lotus’ case is smaller with more curves and mellow lines than a usual Urwerk creation.

The concept for displaying the time with a carrousel and satellites was also adapted to integrate a moon phase indicator at the bottom of the time display. It is the first time that this complication takes so much space on an Urwerk dial, and it provides a delicate touch of poetry to a watch that fits perfectly with the codes of brand: edgy, futuristic, intense. The glam facet of the UR-106 Lotus, which is available in white and black, can be seen on the oversized bezel set with black or white diamonds. Could it be a metaphor for the sky with the stars shining at night? Considering the love Baumgartner and Frei have for science fiction and space, it might be possible.
