Focus On The Super Precise RM 031 By Richard Mille

The RM 031 is a real “racing machine to be worn on the wrist” to paraphrase Richard Mille’s tagline. Indeed, this super-precision watch contains an exclusive caliber that deviates at the most by one second per day! This means that the RM 031 is ten times more precise than C.O.S.C.-certified models – the Swiss chronometer certification C.O.S.C. remains the market’s reference. Launched in 2012, the RM 031 hasn’t received the attention it has deserved. It may be because of its round-shaped case, a form that remains uncommon at Richard Mille. Or it might be because of its large size that makes it look above all like a massive watch for men.

It is however a technical masterpiece: the engineers and watchmakers gave it an AP escapement pulsing at 36,000 beats per hour, a special angle for the gears’ teeth, and ARCAP material for solidity and resistance. They even removed the air from inside the case, replacing it with argon in order to create a vacuum-like atmosphere. Looking at it again is like a rediscovery. In addition, this is a rare timepiece – only 10 pieces exist, each of which is almost unaffordable at 1,005,000 Swiss francs (tax included). The most recent news is that the brand now offers its customers a titanium case in place of the original platinum upon request.
