Beauty is a word that has so many meanings. And it is one of our keywords used in choosing the watches we really preferred at this 2015 edition of Baselworld. The Laurent Ferrier Galet Square was selected especially because of it. More than just aesthetic beauty, it also refers here also to the feeling of the watch on the wrist: absolutely unique and full of love. Technology and innovation are the two other keywords that guided our choices.

And the new H3 from HYT is absolutely spectacular proof of the super high level achieved in horological engineering today. But what matters even more on this watch is the unexpected linear minute hand. A complex system of satellites and a double gear train was necessary to control its motion. The new Minute Repeater Tourbillon With Three Gold Bridges from Girard-Perregaux also caught our attention because of the complexity of the movement, its special architecture, and above all the splendid design inspired by the famous Trois Ponts d’Or collection. At Nomos we garnered admiration for the Minimatik. Conceived for ladies, it contains the new ultra-thin DUW 3001 automatic movement. Its height is only 3.2 mm. But its construction is even more interesting as the automatic gear train is integrated into the heart of the movement to save space. Other mechanical subtleties were also invented to make the DUW 3001 one of the movements able to wind itself the fastest on the market. This is a real horological jewel. And, finally, a smartwatch is for us as useful as it should be reliable. And from this perspective the third generation of the Astron from Seiko is real masterpiece as it is solar charged and set by GPS triangulation. You can’t find a better partner to explore the world – getting lost or not as you wish.
